Oxfam Water Week

Eco-council have done a fantastic job organising events for the Oxfam Water Week. All week the children have been bringing loose change in to try and fill a water bottle. KS2 Sports day!

Yesterday, Monday 3rd July, St. Mary’s held their annual KS2 sports day afternoon. All parents were invited to watch the children complete a number of activities testing both individually and within teams including, sprint races, javelin, long jump, obstacle races, relay, egg and spoon, sack races and target games. Leavers’ Service

Today, Friday 16th June, Violet class attended a leavers’ service at Manchester Cathedral to reflect on their achievements so far and look forward to their next steps into secondary school. The theme of the service was ‘Life in all its fullness’ and pupils from primary schools in the Manchester Diocese shared presentations on compassion, wisdom and justice. It was a really enjoyable service.


Fun with Poetry!

What an exciting day we have had at St. Mary’s with a visit from poet Matt Goodfellow. The day began with a performance in the hall for KS2 children, followed by a performance for KS1 children. Woodland Management Day

Violet class worked really hard this week improving and developing the Forest school area. We had perfect weather for working outdoors and everybody had a productive day. We managed to cut back the brambles, establish better paths, take out some saplings to allow better growth, put in posts to make a cover for our fire circle and plant a small orchard. What an achievement.

Visit to MOSI

What a fantastic day Violet class have had at the Museum of Science and Industry! They participated in three lively, entertaining workshops about explosions, the wonder of light and circuit city and enjoyed investigating all of the experiments on off in the gallery area. We refugees by Benjamin Zephaniah

This half term, Violet class have been learning about human rights and as part of this work studied the book ‘Refugee Boy’. We learnt about the plight of asylum seekers and felt strongly that we needed to change attitudes and opinions. In response, we wrote letter to newspapers highlighting the impact of their leading headlines. We also used the poem ‘We refugees’ by Benjamin

International Slavery Museum

On Thursday 17th November, Violet class travelled to Liverpool to visit the International Slavery Museum linked to their history topic. We had such a fantastic, informative day with a tour of the gallery and workshops on human rights and African music.


Fossil fun!

What an amazing morning Violet class have had with the ‘Wildlife Man’ today on Tuesday 15th November! Linked to our Science topic on ‘Have we always looked like this?’, the session began by studying different fossils and using a branching database to identify them.
