Let all that you do, be done in love. (1 Corinthians16:14)
St. Mary’s School Council consists of two children from each of our Year 1 to Year 6 class. They have been chosen to represent their class by their classmates. Their role is to listen to the views and ideas of their classmates and discuss any suggestions at School Council meetings.
Our School Councillors meet regularly with Mr Plewes to collectively share their ideas, sort out problems, discuss ways to develop ‘learning and caring for each other’ at St Mary’s and to consider how we can serve our wider community. This includes organising charity events, marking special days in the calendar or finding ways to make our world a better place. The School Council provide a pupil voice for the school through regular conversations with their respective class.
Meet our new, eager and enthusiastic members of School Council for 2021-2022.
Children In Need 2021
This year, the school council decided to support Children in Need by asking everyone in St. Mary’s to dress up in spots or comfy clothes and bring their favourite books to share with the rest of their class.
This was all to raise awareness for the wonderful project ‘Read for Good’, which is supported by Children in Need. Read for Good provides a mobile library and storytellers to read books to seriously ill children in hospital. It aims to improve well-being, reduce isolation and increase enjoyment.
Each class loved sharing their stories with each other and hopefully the money raised from all of our donations will allow many more stories being told to children across the UK.
Comic Relief (Red Nose Day) 2022
The school council invited the children of St. Mary’s to wear casual clothes or something red to school to show our support to the brilliant Comic Relief projects. Also, to support the wild animals theme, they created a competition for everyone to get involved with. As the Red Noses were based on eight different animals, the competition was to create and design a habitat for any one of the Red Nose animals to live.
We had some brilliant entries, including lego rainforests for Cam the chameleon and sandy savannahs for Lucky the lion to live, yet the school council has the tricky task of selecting three winners.
Well done to everyone for their support this year. We will post a picture of the entries shortly!
