Summer 1 Newsletter
Literacy and Maths
Our focus quality text will be Goldilocks and Just the One Bear by Leigh Hodgkinson. We will be continuing to develop and use phonics when reading and writing, reading common exception words, and listen to, read, discuss and enjoy a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We will write full sentences and continue to use a range of punctuation accurately, as well as use conjunctions and adjectives to describe. We will also have a strong focus on handwriting and presentation.
In maths, we will be working on mass and volume, multiplication and division, fractions and geometry, using a range of mental and written strategies, and a range of resources.

Important Information

Homework will be sent home on a Monday to be completed by Friday. Homework will consist of spellings to learn, and either a maths or English activity.

We will be continuing to develop and use phonics when reading and writing, reading common exception words, and listen to, read, discuss and enjoy a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We will write full sentences and continue to use a range of punctuation accurately, as well as use conjunctions and adjectives to describe. We will also have a strong focus on handwriting and presentation.
In maths, we will be working on subtraction, place value for numbers to 50, height and weight, and mass and volume, using a range of mental and written strategies, and a range of resources.

Both PE sessions are outdoors this half term so please send your child dressed appropriately for forest school on Mondays and PE on Wednesdays.

Our special objects
The children learned that Jewish people have several special objects in their home or synagogue. The children shared their own special objects with the class, demonstrating excellent speaking and listening skills.
Our Nativity
The children performed their Nativity show so brilliantly. Everyone was so proud!

In maths, we will have a focus on addition and subtraction, using a range of mental and written strategies, and a range of resources. We will also begin to look at geometry with a focus on shape.

Our visit to Cockfields Farm
We visited Cockfields Farm in Ashton. We had a wonderful time seeing all the animals and learning all about them.

We will be continuing to develop and use phonics when reading and writing, reading common exception words, and listen to, read, discuss and enjoy a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We will write full sentences and begin to use a range of punctuation accurately, as well as use conjunctions and adjectives to describe. We will also have a strong focus on handwriting.
In maths, we will be recapping place values and sorting and grouping objects. We will be comparing numbers, and using less than and greater than. Later in the half term, we will begin using addition and subtraction within 10.
