Green - Year 3

Autumn 2 Newsletter

Hi everyone,

We hope you had a lovely and restful break. We are looking forward to diving into our new learning this half-term.

As always, if you have any queries regarding your child's learning, please do get in touch.

Best wishes

Mr Oldham and Miss Liddell

Literacy and maths

In Literacy this half term, the children are looking at an exciting book called Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd Stanton. They will be doing lots of writing around this text such as writing letters and creating newspaper reports.

In maths, they will continue to focus on the addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers as well as using inverse operations to help them to check their answers.

They will then move to look at multiplication and division with a focus on the times tables.

RE

In RE The children will be looking at the question "what does it mean to be a Christian in Britain today?" They will explore how Christians show their faith and carry out worship in their everyday lives.

For details about learning across all subjects, please refer to the Year 3 long term plan and subject overviews on the school website.

PE

The children will continue to have PE on Wednesdays and Fridays. Your child should come to school on Wednesdays and Fridays in their PE kit which should consist of a white t shirt, unbranded black joggers, unbranded black hoody or school jumper and trainers. Due to Stockport Local Authority health and safety guidelines, all earrings must be removed for PE and taping is not allowed.

Homework

Each week, the children will receive a spelling list to practise each day in their purple homework books. This will go home on Mondays so homework books should be brought into school on this day as we will also have a spelling test.

Times Tables Rock Stars

The times tables element of homework has now moved online to Times Tables Rock Stars. Each week, we will set a new 'Garage' for the children to practise at home. The children should try to complete 30 minutes of TTRS time each week.

Reading

It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying the new books we have received in Year 3. Regular reading really enhances all aspects of their learning. The children should be aiming to read for at least 5 minutes, 4 times a week at home.

Sedimentary Rock Sandwiches

This half term in science, year 3 have been learning about rocks and how they are formed. The children all enjoyed creating sedimentary rock sandwiches to learn about the various layers that make up this type of rock. Have a look at the Green Class Gallery to see more!

Autumn 1 Newsletter

Hello everyone and welcome to Year 3. We hope you had a lovely summer. We are very excited to get stuck into all the new and exciting learning this year.

If you have any queries about any aspect of your child's learning, please do get in touch.

Best wishes

Mr Oldham and Miss Liddell

In maths, Green Class will build on their knowledge of place value - representing numbers to 100 and partitioning them into hundreds, tens and ones. Towards the end of this half-term, they will look at addition and subtraction of ones, tens and hundreds and the written methods.

In literacy, the children will be looking closely at books that are related to our history topic (Stone Age to Iron Age) and our science topic of rocks and fossils, starting with 'The Pebble in My Pocket' by Meredith Hooper. They will be doing lots of exciting writing based around them.

Please also refer to the Year 3 curriculum overviews for each subject if you wish to see what your child will be learning this year. These can be found on this website under the 'Curriculum' tab.

PE is on a Wednesday and Friday.

Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on Wednesdays and Fridays. In line with the school uniform policy, this should be an unbranded white t-shirt and black shorts/tracksuit bottoms and trainers. your child's school jumper can also be worn in colder months.  Due to health and safety regulations, all earrings and jewellery must be removed for PE sessions.

Homework

Homework will focus on 3 areas: reading, multiplication and spelling.

Each Monday, your child will receive a spelling list of 5-10 words and a times table to practise each night. They should write out the spelling words and times table each night in their purple homework books. Homework books should be handed in on the following Monday when we will also have a spelling test.

Reading of any kind has a huge beneficial impact on your child's learning. I encourage the children to log any reading they do at home in their reading diaries. Whether this is their reading book, a book they have at home, magazines or comics, please log it all! Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and reading diary into school every day.
