English and Maths
In English, the children will draw on their History knowledge of Ancient Egypt to write some detailed non-chronological reports. Towards the end of the half term, the children will focus on a book called 'The Hunter' by Paul Geraghty which will culminate with them writing their own play scripts.
In Maths, the times tables will continue to be a focus and the children will begin to look at methods for multiplying and dividing 2 and 1-digit numbers.
Please refer to the individual subject overviews on the school website to see what your child will be learning about in all areas of the curriculum this half term.
PE
The children will continue to have games with our City in the Community coach Mr Nsiala on Mondays.
Please note that dance/gymnastics with our sports coach Dan will now take place on Wednesdays. Children should come to school in their usual PE kits on Mondays and Wednesdays. Due to health and safety guidelines, all earrings must be removed before PE.
Homework
Each week, the children will receive a spelling list and times table to practise each day in their purple homework books. This will go home on Mondays and homework books should be handed back in on Fridays, when the children will have a spelling test.
Reading is very valuable to all the children's learning and it has been so lovely to see how they have been excited and motivated to read different books at home and in school following our Friday Book Club. Keep up the super reading Green Class!

Literacy and maths
In Literacy this half term, the children are looking at an exciting book called Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd Stanton. They will be doing lots of writing around this text such as writing letters and creating newspaper reports.
In maths, they will continue to focus on the addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers as well as using inverse operations to help them to check their answers.
They will then move to look at multiplication and division with a focus on the times tables.
RE
In RE The children will be looking at the question "what does it mean to be a Christian in Britain today?" They will explore how Christians show their faith and carry out worship in their everyday lives.
For details about learning across all subjects, please refer to the Year 3 long term plan and subject overviews on the school website.
PE
The children will continue to have PE on Mondays and Thursdays. Your child should come to school on Mondays and Thursdays in their PE kit which should consist of a white t shirt, unbranded black joggers/shorts and trainers. Due to health and safety guidelines, all earrings must be removed for PE.
Homework
Each week, the children will receive a spelling list and times table to practise each day in their purple homework books. This will go home on Mondays and homework books should be handed back in on Fridays. We will have a spelling test each Friday.
Reading
It has been wonderful to see the children's love of reading. Regular reading really enhances all aspects of their learning. The children should be aiming to read for at least 5 minutes, 4 times a week.
Sedimentary Rock Sandwiches
In science, Year 3 had lots of fun learning about the layers that make up sedimentary rock. They made some sedimentary rock sandwiches! Take a look at our gallery to see more.
Autumn 1 - Newsletter

If you have any queries about any aspect of your child's learning, please do get in touch.

In maths, Green Class will build on their knowledge of place value - representing numbers to 100 and partitioning them into hundreds, tens and ones. Towards the end of this half-term, they will look at addition and subtraction of ones, tens and hundreds and the written methods.
In literacy, the children will be looking closely at books that are related to our history topic (Stone Age to Iron Age) and our science topic of rocks and fossils, starting with 'The Pebble in My Pocket' by Meredith Hooper. They will be doing lots of exciting writing based around them.
Please also refer to the Year 3 curriculum overviews for each subject if you wish to see what your child will be learning this year. These can be found on this website under the 'Curriculum' tab.
PE is on a Monday and Thursday.
Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on Mondays and Thursdays. In line with the school uniform policy, this should be an unbranded white t-shirt and black shorts/tracksuit bottoms and trainers. Due to health and safety regulations, all earrings and jewellery must be removed for PE sessions.
Homework
Homework will focus on 3 areas: reading, multiplication and spelling.
Each Monday, your child will receive a spelling list of 5-10 words and a times table to practise each night. They should write out the spelling words and times table each night in their purple homework books. Homework books should be handed in on a Friday when we will also have a spelling test.
Reading of any kind has a huge beneficial impact on your child's learning. I encourage the children to log any reading they do at home in their reading diaries. Whether this is their reading book, a book they have at home, magazines or comics, please log it all! Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and reading diary into school every day.
