Green - Year 3
Autumn 2 Newsletter
Hi everyone,
We hope you had a lovely and restful break. We are looking forward to diving into our new learning this half-term.
As always, if you have any queries regarding your child's learning, please do get in touch.
Best wishes
Mr Oldham, Mrs Birks and Mrs Welsh
Literacy and maths
In Literacy this half term, the children are looking at an exciting book called Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd Stanton. They will be doing lots of writing around this text such as writing letters and creating newspaper reports.
In maths, they will continue to focus on the addition and subtraction of 3-digit numbers as well as using inverse operations to help them to check their answers.
They will then move to look at multiplication and division with a focus on the times tables.
RE
In RE, the children will be looking at the question "what does it mean to be a Christian in Britain today?" They will explore how Christians show their faith and carry out worship in their everyday lives.
For details about learning across all subjects, please refer to the Year 3 long term plan and subject overviews on the school website.
PE
The children will continue to have PE on Thursdays and Fridays. Your child should come to school on Thursdays and Fridays in their PE kit which should consist of a white t shirt, unbranded black joggers, unbranded black sweatshirt or school jumper and trainers.
Due to Stockport Local Authority health and safety guidelines, all earrings must be removed for PE and taping is not allowed.
Times Tables Rock Stars
Each week, we will set a new 'Garage' for the children to practise at home. The children should try to complete 20 minutes of TTRS time each week.
Reading
It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying the books we have in year 3. Regular reading really enhances all aspects of their learning. The children should be aiming to read for at least 5 minutes, 4 times a week at home. Please could you sign your child's reading diary each week and ensure they are bringing their reading book and reading diary into school each day.
Sedimentary Rock Sandwiches
Year 3 had lots of fun creating sedimentary rock sandwiches as part of their science topic about rocks and fossils. They used the different breads and fillings to create a sandwich that resembled sedimentary rock - a rock that is made of lots of different layers. We definitely didn't eat them at the end!
Autumn 1 Newsletter
Hello everyone and welcome to Year 3. We hope you had a lovely summer. We are very excited to get stuck into all the new and exciting learning this year.
If you have any queries about any aspect of your child's learning, please do get in touch.

Mr Oldham and Mrs Birks
In maths, Green Class will build on their knowledge of place value - representing numbers to 100 and partitioning them into hundreds, tens and ones. Towards the end of this half-term, they will look at addition and subtraction of ones, tens and hundreds and the written methods.
In literacy, the children will be looking closely at books that are related to our history topic (Stone Age to Iron Age) and our science topic of rocks and fossils, starting with 'The Pebble in My Pocket' by Meredith Hooper. They will be doing lots of exciting writing based around them.
Please also refer to the Year 3 curriculum overviews for each subject if you wish to see what your child will be learning this year. These can be found on this website under the 'Curriculum' tab.
PE is on a Thursday and Friday.
Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their PE kit on Thursdays and Fridays.
Stockport County are kindly providing PE kits for all children this year. These should be distributed to you during the first week back in school.
Arrangements for PE during the first week back:
-
Children may wear their old PE kit or other suitable sports clothing (such as a plain t-shirt, shorts, or joggers with trainers).
-
Please note: Football kits are not permitted.
Due to health and safety regulations, all earrings, watches and jewellery must be removed prior to the school day for PE sessions.
Homework
The children should aim to complete 30 minutes of Times Tables Rock Stars at home every week. The login for this can be found in your child's reading diary.
Reading of any kind has a huge beneficial impact on your child's learning. I encourage the children to log any reading they do at home in their reading diaries. Whether this is their reading book, a book they have at home, magazines or comics, please log it all! Please ensure that your child brings their reading book and reading diary into school every day.
